At first sight, the e-Capsule™ Private Browser (or e-Capsule™ PB) can be classified as a portable Internet browser, allowing its users to search and navigate over the World Wide Web using standard instructions and interfaces, but without the need of any installation procedure on the host PC.
However, at a closer look, the e-Capsule™ PB represents a truly unique, yet usable, approach to confidential and safe Internet browsing since it is capable of protecting information on your Internet navigation sessions with unmatched security and usability.
Navigating over the Web using a standard Internet browser (such as Microsoft® Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) leaves a stream of personal data behind, stored in clear format inside well-known folders, readable by anyone having access to your PC and by malicious codes (e.g. a Trojan) executing in the back ground without your knowledge. Your sensitive data, such as browsing history, visited links, site cookies, Web form entries and even private passwords are constantly in danger of being copied, captured or disclosed to others without your knowledge.
Many of the standard browsers do provide some means for clearing navigation data by periodically erasing the application files where such data is stored. However, this resembles more a catch-22 situation rather than true protection. In fact, one is really never sure of when is the right time to delete the personal data and will always be tempted to postpone clearing it, since this also erases useful links and information that one may need later.
The conclusion is that local security practices regarding the privacy of Internet navigation data are not very usable and mostly ineffective. The e-Capsule™ PB tackles and solves this problem at the root by blocking unauthorized access to sensitive navigation data at all times, even while the application is running.
The e-Capsule™ Private Browser Profile
The e-Capsule™ PB application is characterized first of all by the fact that it is fully contained on a USB device, thus requiring no installation and no special drivers. This property is technically called “zero-footprint”, indicating that no traces are left on the PC, either as temporary files or OS registry values. After you have finished your e-Capsule™ session on the host PC, no one will be able to recover any useful information or data on the session itself.
In particular, the e-Capsule™ PB stores all your temporary Internet data inside of an encrypted file using strong AES-256bit encryption at the file block level (i.e. at the level of the smallest contiguous set of bits or bytes that forms an identifiable unit of data). This implies that information on your navigation session is always protected since it is constantly kept inside of the encrypted profile. This remains true even when browsing over Internet, since e-Capsule™ PB modifies your profile data while keeping it encrypted at all times and the internal data structure is totally meaningless to external processes or applications. In fact, you will need to enter a secret passphrase before the e-Capsule™ PB will be able to start up and access your private profile data.
Therefore, the e-Capsule™ PB application allows you to navigate and operate over Internet without ever worrying about third parties accessing your session’s data. You can use the e-Capsule™ PB to navigate over Internet just like any standard browser, but with the peace of mind that no confidential information will ever be extracted from your personal profile without your knowledge.
NOTE:
You should be aware that information on clear Internet sessions (i.e. when browsing without establishing an encrypted channel with the target Web server) can be intercepted and logged at the server or proxy levels with the use of centralized monitoring techniques. It is impossible to prevent or to block this potential information leakage using only local PC tools. However, even in such cases the remote monitoring agents will not be capable of extracting any useful information from your e-Capsule™ PB profile data since it is kept encrypted at all times.
